You are the counterweight in the shaft behind the wall. You never see the car,
never see who rides it. You only feel what your hand does to their evening.
How the rope works
Drag down on the counterweight to lift the car up. Drag up to let it down.
Speed isn't the job. A jolt is felt by everyone riding — even a good one, done fast, spills something.
Ease onto the floor and ease off the rope. Snapping back to center at the end counts too.
Hold near the target floor, steady, until the car settles. Then the next call comes in.
The week at the Meridian
Seven nights. Each one only opens once the last one's done.
